Anticipating the Arrival of Apple’s Massive 32-Inch iMac by 2025

Date:

Apple is currently expanding its formidable line-up of Macs powered by its own chips, with a giant-size iMac on the horizon. There’s chatter that a 32-inch iMac is being prepped for development, but it isn’t due to hit the stores in the immediate future.

It was initially assumed that the all-in-one iMac’s maximum size would top out at 30 inches. However, the newest projections place the launch of the grand 32-inch iMac a good one to two years away. As hinted by Bloomberg’s own Mark Gurman, we’re looking at a debut somewhere around late 2024 to early 2025.

This leap in screen size comes years after Apple introduced the more sizable version of the 2020’s 24-inch M1 iMac.

Diving Into What’s Known About Apple’s Path Forward with the 32-inch iMac

Currently, if you’re browsing Apple’s iMac selections, you’ll find the 24-inch model on shelves—partly due to Apple phasing out the older Intel-based 27-inch iMac that had been lagging behind in updates.

After a series of delays and setbacks, Apple’s plans for the 32-inch iMac could mark an impressive return to the larger Mac format, now boasting Apple silicon at its core.

At present, the M1 chip powers the 24-inch iMac, but anticipated updates are expected to bring an M3 chip—heralding significant performance improvements, particularly if the speculated transition from a 5nm to a 3nm process holds true.

Speculation is ripe about which chip the 32-inch iMac will embrace. Given the installation of an M3 chipset in the 15-inch M2 MacBook Air, it’s possible that either the new iMac will follow suit, or it could introduce an even newer chip, considering the iMac Pro’s unclear timeline.

The elegant 32-inch Pro Display XDR gives us some clues too, suggesting that Apple might pair its iMac with a high-definition screen similar in quality to the Pro Display XDR’s retina display. Considering that the previous 27-inch model featured a 5K resolution, it would be logical for the new iMac to offer up to a 6K screen resolution.

With the Pro Display XDR’s 2019 pricing set at $4,999, we might expect the 32-inch iMac to align within this price range as well, though only time will tell.
